I am taking part in The Swiss Color Run 2014 on Sunday 24th August. We have formed the Walka 4 Aorta team and we will be walking the 5km course in the city, in memory of my cousin's husband Phillip Laferla who passed away from in 2012 following surgery. My aim is to raise much needed funds for The Baird Institute to help with it's research into Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Disease (TAAD).
TAAD is a serious disease which we have discovered is fast becoming one of the most common silent killers in the western world. Phillip's passing in 2012 highlights the critical importance of early detection of this disease which could lead directly to enhancing the results of surgical outcomes. The Baird Institute's research into TAAD is important, particularly in terms of understanding the genetric nature of this disease. Not only can their research enable enhanced patient care but it can also increase the likelihood of avoiding the passage of this disease to the next generation.
I would be grateful if you would consider sponsoring me as part of the Walka 4 Aorta team and supporting the work of The Baird Institute. Nothing can change the sadness of losing Phillip, but we can help make a difference for others.
